The 'Ok' Factor

When someone asks me how they look, I have tendency to be brutally honest. It's part of my job :)
How does one manage when they go shopping alone? or with a friend?

Do people settle for whats 'ok'? If so, why? Why not dress to their fullest potential?

While I was shopping a couple of days ago at my favourite store, I saw a young woman looking for some clothes. After getting a little chatty with the retail assistant, I overheard her saying she was 'looking for a dress for a best friend's baby shower'.

Great chance for the retail assistant (Almost a sale)! So as this customer was handed 5-6 different dresses, she went into the trial room to experiment how each one looked on her. As she came out in each dress, I saw her reaction, there was no dress that gave her the twinkle in her eyes. So she went back in to try on one of the dresses again to convince herself.

The most surprising part, she walked out with a dress that she was not a 100 % sure about, a dress that she might not even end up wearing on the day of the baby shower and will probably be lying in her wardrobe for a year before it gets lost in between all her other clothes and one day finally gets donated.

Why??

Why do we settle for less in our clothes when we don't in other things?
